FAQ
Here are answers to the most important questions about MiauID. If yours is missing, write to us.
Local mode is free for good. The paid plans are planned but can neither be booked nor are they finally priced. The current state is on the pricing page.
Not for local mode. It runs without registration; your cat's details reach no server, they stay on your device. Accounts will only exist once sync and family sharing arrive — and then as a deliberate choice, not a requirement.
In local mode your cat's details are only on your device, not with us. You delete them in the app under More → Delete data and account, or by uninstalling the app. Our server also receives: feedback you send yourself via "Send feedback", together with the randomly generated ID of your household in the app (deleted 180 days after receipt); if you allow notifications, your device's push token (deleted as soon as you switch notifications off in the app or use "Delete data and account"); anonymous crash reports without details about you, your device or your cat (kept for 180 days at most); and at every start the check for a new app version, for which our server keeps your IP address only as a one-way value (deleted by the daily clean-up once an hour has passed since the last request). Section 3 of the privacy policy (in German) covers the server log files; details are in sections 7.5 to 7.8. Every way to delete is described on Delete account & data.
No. Pet passports, vaccination certificates and the official microchip registers — in the EU, for example, the EU pet passport — are legal instruments. MiauID shows details for your own overview and replaces neither the document nor an official registration.
No, and it is not meant to. MiauID records, summarises and reminds. It makes no diagnosis, prescribes nothing and changes no dose. If your cat shows symptoms, it belongs in a practice.
In local mode your cat's details are stored only on your device. For sync, which is built but not yet in any published app version, storage within the EU is intended; details are in the privacy policy. The website itself runs today in a data centre in Helsinki, Finland.
Yes — not as an emergency mode but as the normal case. Feeding, doses, weight, vaccinations and documents are written and read on the device, which is why local mode also works without signal at the vet. The app contacts our server only to check for a new version, for anonymous crash reports, for messages if you allow them, and for feedback you send yourself.
From the start. Many cat homes have two or more cats. Several cats, separate plans, one shared food stock.
It does not count down, it calculates. The stock follows from the pack you added and what was actually logged as fed — so the estimate stays right even on days with more or less food.
Today with the vet summary as a PDF or with the QR card for the practice. The app creates both on your device, without a server; for the QR card you choose which details it contains and how long it is valid. Private notes are excluded by default. An online share you can revoke at any time is in development; details are on the For vets page.
MiauID keeps ready the details that count in an emergency — microchip number, markings, contact — and creates a finder card with a QR code that works even without internet. The card deliberately shows neither your home address nor the health record. With Android version 1.0.5 you can also write an NFC tag; anyone who reads it with a phone sees a neutral page with no personal data. MiauID does not replace a registration with a pet registry in your country.
No. Neither one nor the other, and that follows from the design: in local mode your cat's details never leave the device. This website has no tracking, no cookie banner, no font from a third-party server and no analytics tool.
Because we would rather make it readable now what we build and what we expressly do not, than collect an expectation later that we did not meet. If something bothers you or you miss something, write to us.
Whether a question, feedback or an idea for working together — we look forward to hearing from you.
